Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday said that the term DeepTech has found a ‘deep resonance’ among India’s youth, who are increasingly embracing innovation and entrepreneurship. Speaking at India’s largest DeepTech conference, organised by The IndUS Entrepreneurs (TiE) Delhi-NCR in New Delhi, Goyal highlighted the government’s strong commitment to building a robust DeepTech ecosystem in the country, IANS reported.

He said, “It is not just about artificial intelligence but also about quantum computing, machine learning, defence and spacetech, the semiconductor mission, and much more.” The minister emphasised that India’s journey in DeepTech represents a holistic technological transformation that aligns with the nation’s ambition to become a global innovation powerhouse.

Government strengthening DeepTech ecosystem

Goyal underlined the government’s ongoing efforts to embed technology into India’s DNA by strengthening the intellectual property ecosystem, promoting R&D, and allowing startups to scale innovation. He noted that people and organisations are contributing not only through financial investments but also by dedicating efforts to nurture creativity and innovation across sectors.

Referring to India’s entrepreneurial spirit, Goyal said, “Indians are willing to take risks. We do not have small goals; we are ambitious and ready to play a major role at the global level. Let’s conquer the world.”

Rs 10,000 crore push for DeepTech and AI startups

The minister also referenced the Union Budget 2025-26, which earmarked a Rs 10,000-crore Fund of Funds to accelerate the development of DeepTech and AI-enabled platforms. The initiative aims to boost the startup and innovation ecosystem, particularly in frontier areas such as quantum computing, semiconductors, spacetech, and biotech.

India’s DeepTech Vision: Collaboration and growth

The two-day TiE DeepTech Conference brings together CXOs, policymakers, investors, scientists, and innovators to shape India’s transformative decade in emerging technologies. Senior officials from DPIIT, MeitY, India AI Mission, and Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) are scheduled to participate.

A special Lab2Scale showcase will feature 10–12 cutting-edge research projects, each presented through five-minute pitches, demonstrating India’s growing capability in commercialising research and fostering homegrown innovation.
