Mumbai Police Step Up Security Ahead Of Eid, Gudi Padwa; Deploy 14,000 Personnel Across City

Mumbai police have heightened security in the city ahead of the festivals of Eid-ul-Fitr and Gudi Padwa. As many as 14,000 police personnel will be deployed to maintain the law and order situation in the city. 

The police have appealed to the people to celebrate both festivals under the framework of the law. 

According to police officials, seven additional commissioners, 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police, 50 Assistant Commissioners, 1,982 police officials, and 11,820 constables will be on duty to ensure law and order situation. 

Mumbai police have urged people to maintain peace and not touch suspicious items in crowded places. They also appealed to people to report any such instance on emergency numbers 100 or 112.

Deployment Of Force In UP 

Director General of Police of Uttar Pradesh, Prashant Kumar has directed the deployment of “rooftop duty” with necessary equipment at sensitive places ahead of the beginning of the nine-day Navratri (on March 30) and the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations (on March 31). 

The DGP issued a series of directives to senior police officials of the state saying: “Rooftop duty with necessary equipment should be deployed at sensitive places and proper police arrangements should be ensured by identifying all the important areas.”

He also directed that foot patrolling to be done around markets, crowded places and important business establishments and anti-sabotage checking should be done regularly.

Kumar said that it should be ensured that adequate fire-fighting arrangements are made in the markets and that animals should not be allowed to roam on the routes near Eidgahs/mosques during ‘namaaz’.

The district should be divided into sectors and zones and magistrates, the directive stated, adding that adequate police force should be deployed at sensitive places along with police pickets, static magistrates and gazetted officers.
