‘West Bengal Turned Into West Bangladesh’: BJP Rebukes CM Mamata Over Murshidabad Violence

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on the West Bengal government, holding Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee responsible for the violence that broke out in Murshidabad over the Waqf (Amendment) Act. The party has alleged that the state’s law and order situation has collapsed under her leadership and blamed her administration’s “appeasement politics” for the unrest.

According to officials, violence erupted in the Jangipur area of the Muslim-majority Murshidabad district on Tuesday during a protest demanding the withdrawal of the Waqf (Amendment) Act. A senior district police officer said that protestors hurled stones at police personnel and set police vehicles ablaze, news agency PTI reported. Security has since been tightened in the area.

Amit Malviya, In-charge of BJP’s National Information and Technology Department and Co-incharge for West Bengal, took to X (formerly Twitter) to criticise the Mamata Banerjee-led government. He alleged, “Muslim mobs have taken to the streets of Murshidabad, openly calling for defiance of the Constitution in protest against the Waqf Act. ‘সংবিধান মানছি না, মানবো না’ (I do not accept the Constitution, and I never will). West Bengal Home Minister Mamata Banerjee must either wake up and take control of the situation or resign. Enough is enough.”

In a separate post, Malviya wrote, “The West Bengal Police is struggling to rein in the violent Islamist mob rampaging through the streets of Murshidabad—possibly under instructions from Home Minister Mamata Banerjee herself. Her inflammatory speeches have directly contributed to the current unrest.”

He further alleged that internet services in the region had been throttled as a so-called precautionary measure. “This is the same region that witnessed repeated attacks on Hindus during the recent Kartik Puja celebrations. Several trains were brought to a standstill as tensions escalated,” he wrote.

“Mamata Banerjee’s spineless brand of Muslim appeasement is dragging Bengal dangerously close to the path of Bangladesh,” Malviya claimed, adding, “These recurring incidents expose a grim reality: Mamata Banerjee has completely lost control over large parts of Bengal. Years of unchecked illegal infiltration and deliberate demographic distortion have created zones beyond the reach of the administration. Yet, she continues to shield her vote-bank — her ‘milch cows’ — sacrificing law and order for her own political survival.”

He ended the post with a warning: “But Bengal will not forgive. Bengal will not forget. Not the blood in Beldanga, Not the silence in Nowda, Not the cries of Mothabari, Nor the devastation of Jangipur. 2026 will be the reckoning. Mamata Banerjee’s politics of appeasement will be swept away by the rising tide of Hindu awakening in Bengal.”

Murshidabad Violence: Bengal BJP President Asks Abhishek Banerjee, ‘Where Is Your Heroism Now’

Union Minister of State for Education and Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar also condemned the incident, stating, “West Bengal — once safeguarded by Syama Prasad Mukherjee — now bleeds under the rule of Mamata Banerjee & her nephew, the self-styled ‘Prince of Kalighat’ Abhishek Banerjee. As a particular community runs riot in Murshidabad, torching police vehicles & destroying govt property, where is your heroism now, @abhishekaitc?”

He further questioned, “Mamata Banerjee — India’s most failed CM — why the silence? Are you hiding to deflect from the latest recruitment scam? Did you unleash your so-called ‘Shanti Vahini’ to orchestrate this fundamentalist rampage? @MamataOfficial”

“Law & order in Bengal = Innocent Hindus arrested, radical fundamentalists untouched. Shame!” he added.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nisith Pramanik also weighed in, stating, “Muslim mobs calling for defiance of the Constitution in protest against the Waqf Act in Murshidabad. ‘সংবিধান মানছি না, মানবো না’ (I do not accept the Constitution, and I never will). Mamata Banerjee must either wake up, take control of the situation or resign. Enough is enough.”

BJP Rajya Sabha MP Samik Bhattacharya, reacting to the incident, told news agency IANS, “What kind of rule is going on in West Bengal? Is this West Bengal or has it turned into ‘West Bangladesh’? In a democracy, everyone has the right to protest against anything within the framework of the law. But is this the way to protest? Will you throw stones at the police?”

No response has been issued yet from the Trinamool Congress or the West Bengal government on the allegations raised.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on Thursday and subsequently cleared by the Rajya Sabha in the early hours of Friday, following marathon debates in both Houses of Parliament. President Droupadi Murmu gave her assent to the Bill on Saturday, officially enacting it into law. The legislation aims to improve governance and transparency in the management of Waqf properties, safeguard heritage sites, and promote social welfare.
