Election strategist-turned-political leader Prashant Kishor (PK) addressed a massive rally at Gandhi Maidan in Patna as part of his Bihar Badlav (Change) Rally, signaling a major political challenge to the current Bihar government. Thousands of people from various districts of the state gathered under the scorching sun to hear him speak, some waiting for hours.
At the beginning of his speech, Prashant Kishor said he had not come to deliver a speech but to apologise. He alleged that the government deliberately caused traffic jams across Patna, preventing nearly two lakh of his supporters from reaching the venue. Kishor further said that the government has committed a sin by stopping people from meeting him.
“More than a month ago, we gave application to book Gandhi Maidan, and since then, we have fulfilled all the formalities asked by the administration…administration had offered to extend all the help…we had told them that more than 5 lakh people want to participate…we gave administration all the information…yesterday, they released a joint order…but still more than 2 lakh people were stuck in traffic jam,” Kishor said as quoted by news agency ANI.
He further claimed that if he had not helped Nitish Kumar in 2015, the Chief Minister would have retired from politics by now.
Kishor made a big announcement from the stage, stating that within the next ten days, he would begin a padyatra (foot march) across Bihar, visiting every village and household to meet people directly.
He said, “The storm of change in Bihar is now unstoppable. Nitish Kumar must be uprooted. We don’t want Lalu’s jungle raj or the Nitish-Modi alliance — we want a people’s government.”
Prashant Kishor said he had ended Lalu Yadav’s era of criminal politics, and now it was Nitish Kumar’s bureaucratic empire that needed to go. Kishor alleged that the administration acted at the behest of the chief minister, who heads the JD(U) and said that he would perform “rajnitik shraddh” (political funeral) of the 74-year-old leader.
Kishor taking a jab on Bihar CM said one who arranges the marriage also performs the last rites. This was a reference to his own role in bringing Nitish to power, suggesting he would now remove him as well. He accused Nitish of betraying the Jan Suraaj movement and vowed not to forgive him.
The Bihar Legilsative Assembly poll for all the 243 constituencies is scheduled to be held in October or November this year. The last election in the state was held in October-November 2020.
