‘Something Very Wrong With System’: Rahul Gandhi Attacks EC At Brown University

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi questioned the transperancy in the poll process during the assembly elections in Maharashtra alleging a “big problem” in the country’s electoral system.

Speaking at Brown University in Boston during his trip to the US, he alleged vote manipulation in the Maharashtra elections, swept by the Bharatiya Janata Party.

“In simple terms, more people voted in the Maharashtra assembly elections than there are adults in Maharashtra. This is a fact,” he said.

“We got the voting figures till 5:30 pm, but between 5:30 and 7:30 pm, when the voting should have ended, 65 lakh people cast their votes,” he alleged.

“This is not physically possible because it takes about 3 minutes for a person to cast their vote,” Gandhi said.

“If we calculate, this means that people were standing in line till 2 am and voting continued throughout the night, which is not true. This did not happen,” he added.

Rahul Slams Election Commission

The Congress MP also targeted the Election Commission saying it amended rules on the videography of the poll process when his party asked if the entire process is being filmed or not.

“We asked the election officials if the voting was being videographed. They not only refused but they also changed the law. Now you cannot even demand videography of voting,” he claimed.

The Raebreli parliamentarian alleged the poll panel of compromising with impartiality.

“It was clear to us that the Election Commission had compromised its impartiality. There is something very wrong with the system, it is quite evident. We have said this openly and I myself have repeated this many times,” he said.

“Anti Democracy, Anti India Rahul Gandhi who could not win the trust of Indian electorate begins to question Indian democratic process on a foreign soil,” Bhandari wrote on X.

“Why does Rahul always defame India on a foreign soil? An agent of George Soros who is Fighting Indian state – that’s what Rahul Gandhi’s intent today is,” he added.
