IPL 2025: Lucknow Super Giants vs Delhi Capitals, Match 40: Stats Review of player records and achieved milestones

Delhi Capitals rose to the second position on the points table by registering a comprehensive win over Lucknow Super Giants in the latter’s home and eventually achieving the season double over the Rishabh Pant-led outfit. 

LSG were put into bat and got off to a great start. Aiden Markram (52 off 33) and Mitchell Marsh (45 off 36) put in a solid opening stand, batting half the overs by themselves. DC’s bowlers then took over with Mitchell Starc getting the best of Nicholas Pooran and Player of the Match Mukesh Kumar (4 for 33) triggering a middle-order collapse. Impact Player Ayush Badoni (36 off 21) did his best to arrest the slide, but was bested by Kumar, who took two wickets in the final over to restrict the hosts to 159. 

DC’s chase, on the other hand, was extremely clinical. The Capitals got 15 runs off the first over of the chase, and banked on their early momentum to guide them through on a tricky surface. Abhishek Porel (51 off 36) and Karun Nair started aggressively, but Nair departed soon. KL Rahul (57* off 42) joined Porel and made sure DC got to safety. Axar Patel (34* off 20) proved his worth with the bat with a staggering four sixes towards the end of the chase.

5 – The number of times Mitchell Starc has dismissed Nicholas Pooran across all T20s. While this is the most often that Starc has dismissed a single batter in the format, five other bowlers have also dismissed Pooran five times in T20 cricket. 

1 – Nicholas Pooran’s batting average of 2.40 against Starc is the joint lowest by any batter against a single bowler in T20s with a minimum of five dismissals. Kumar Sangakkara also averaged as much against Rahul Sharma. 

8 – KL Rahul has become the eighth player, and the sixth Indian, to complete the milestone of 5,000 runs in the IPL. 

1 – By the number of innings taken, Rahul has become the fastest player to reach 5,000 runs in the IPL, getting there in 130 innings. The previous record was with David Warner, who got there in 135 innings. Rahul also holds the record for being the fastest to 4,000 runs in the IPL by innings. 

2 – KL Rahul and Chris Gayle are the only players to be the fastest by innings to two different multiples of 1,000 runs in the IPL. Gayle is the fastest to 2000 and 3000 runs in the IPL. 

Virat Kohli is technically the fastest to both 7,000 and 8,000 runs, but he is the only player to have completed either of those milestones.
