CRPF Jawan Caught In Espionage Net, Accused Of Leaking Secrets To Pakistan Since 2023

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan on allegations of espionage. The accused, Moti Ram Jat, is believed to have been passing sensitive information to Pakistani intelligence operatives since last year, officials confirmed to PTI on Monday.

Jat, who was posted in a sensitive capacity, is now at the centre of a high-stakes probe. The NIA arrested him in Delhi over the weekend and has begun an intensive round of questioning to uncover the extent of the information compromised.

Money Trail Points to Espionage-for-Cash Operation

Investigators have alleged that Moti Ram Jat was not acting alone or out of ideology. Instead, the evidence reportedly shows that he had been receiving money through various intermediaries for leaking classified national security details. Officials said these funds were traced back to Pakistan intelligence officers (PIOs), making this a clear case of cross-border espionage.

The agency suspects that Jat was actively engaged in sharing confidential inputs with foreign handlers since 2023. His activities came under scrutiny during routine intelligence monitoring, leading to his arrest. Authorities are now probing how much damage might have been done and what kind of information was compromised during this period.

Special Court Sends Accused to NIA Custody Till June 6

Following his arrest, Moti Ram Jat was produced before the special court at Patiala House in Delhi, where the NIA sought his custodial remand for further interrogation. The court granted the request, remanding him to NIA custody till June 6.

The agency is currently focusing on identifying the full network of handlers and conduits involved in the flow of information and money. This arrest has triggered alarm across intelligence and paramilitary circles, highlighting the persistent risks posed by insider threats.

While the NIA remains tight-lipped about the exact nature of the information leaked, sources say the matter could have serious implications for national security. The investigation is ongoing, and more arrests could follow if additional collaborators are identified.
