Chilling Video Shows Close Shave For Travellers As Landslide Hits Car In Himachal’s Simaur

With the scorching summer sun glaring down on Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan, people are making a beeline for hill stations in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. However, even the short weekend trip doesn’t seem to be without its own set of worries. The chief among them is the risk of a landslide.

A video is now going viral on social media, which shows a group having a close shave on NH-707 in Simaur, Himachal Pradesh. The video shows people rushing out of their car as rocks hurtle towards them during a landslide.

The video, shot on a mobile phone, shows bystanders yelling at the group in the car even as one of them tried to go back to the car to back it up in an effort to save it from damage.

The car did not appear to suffer any major damage. It was only a matter of seconds, though, which kept the occupants safe. No casualty was reported in the incident.

Traffic on the NH-707 stretch was halted after the incident as authorities rushed to clear the way.

50% Himachal Prone To Landslides: Report

The incident came just two months after six people died in a landslide in Gurdwara Manikaran Sahib in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh. The victims were hit by a tree uprooted by the force of the landslide.

A report published by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Ropar, in February stated that nearly 50% of the hill state is prone to landslides and avalanches. As per environmentalists, rampant development and unchecked construction works in hilly regions, such as Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, have contributed to the risk of subsidence and landslides.
