Zimbabwe pacer Kundai Matigimu fined for breaching ICC Code of Conduct | CricTracker

Kundai Matigimu has been slapped a 15% fine on his match fees for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during Day 1 of the second Test between Zimbabwe and South Africa

Matigumu fielded the ball off his own bowling and threw it aggressively towards the stumps at Lhuan-de Pretorius’ end in the 72nd over. However, the inaccurate throw went towards the left-handed batter who hurt his wrist due to the impact.

Matigimu was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. The provision is connected to “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment) at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match.”

The 27-year-old admitted the offence and accepted the sanction, which meant that there was no need of a formal hearing. The disciplinary action was taken by Ranjan Madugalle of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.

One demerit point was added to the right-arm pacer’s disciplinary record. It was his first offence within a 24-month (two-year) period. The second Test of the two-match series marked Matigimu’s international debut for Zimbabwe

Speaking of the opening day’s play, it belonged to the Proteas and, particularly, standby skipper Wiaan Mulder. South Africa ended the first day with 465 runs on the board in 88 overs, with Mulder contributing with 264. The all-rounder continued his marathon on the next day and declared at Lunch after scoring a record unbeaten 367 off 334 deliveries.

On the other hand, Zimbabwe’s first innings was wrapped up quite quickly as they were bundled out for 170 in 43 overs. Sean Williams (83* off 55) served as the lone warrior for the hosts in an otherwise disappointing display of batting from the rest of the squad.
