The Kanwar Yatra, which began on Friday (July 11), will continue till July 23 (Chaturdashi Tithi). It is expected to see a footfall of 15 to 20 lakh pilgrims in the national capital.
On the incident of broken glass shards found scattered along the Kanwar route, BJP Shahdara MLA Sanjay Goyal, said that the miscreants “deliberately spread glass shards on the Kanwar route to injure devotees and create resentment against the government.”
“While the Delhi government under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and all respected ministers are making grand arrangements to welcome Shiv devotees entering Delhi through Apsara Border and other routes — including floral showers, decorative gates, medical aid, sanitation, and tight security — some anti-social elements are trying to disrupt the pilgrimage,” he said.
“These miscreants, with a small-minded mentality, have deliberately spread glass shards on the Kanwar route, intending to injure devotees and create resentment against the government,” the MLA added.
Special arrangements related to traffic, police and the municipal corporation have been made by the Delhi Police to ensure proper a smooth experience for devotees. CM Gupta also chaired a high-level meeting on Saturday to oversee the preparations to welcome the Kanwar Yatra devotees during the auspicious Shravan month.
After the meeting, she said that the Delhi government has registered a record number of 374 applications for setting up Kanwar camps as compared to last year’s 170.
