Hindu Outfit Shuts Down KFC, Nazeer Foods Outlets In Ghaziabad Over Meat Sale In ‘Sawan’: WATCH

Several members of a Hindu outfit on Friday forcibly shut down two well-known eateries—KFC and Nazeer Foods—citing the sale of meat during the sacred month of Sawan. The incident took place in Ghaziabad’s Vasundhara on July 17, following which police have registered a case against the protestors.

Despite the absence of any official restriction on the sale of non-vegetarian food items in the area during Sawan or the ongoing Kanwar Yatra, the protestors stormed into the stores asking the staff to shut them down.

Videos circulating on social media show the group chanting religious such as “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Jai Shri Ram,” while confronting restaurant employees, asking them to down the shutters. 

The outfit members can be heard saying that it is wrong to sell non-vegeterian food during the sacred month of Sawan and that the outlets will have to shut down the stores. 

Another individual from the group warned of similar demonstrations if the outlets were to resume operations: “They will have to shut their shops. If these KFC and Nazeer Foods outlets reopen, we will stage a similar protest and shut them down.”

‘Sawan’ is a sacred month for the Hindus. During this time, the Kanwar Yatra, which is an annual pilgrimage. Devotees travel mostly on foot carrying Ganga water from Haridwar to Shiva temples across northern India to offer on ‘Shivlingas’.

According to a report by NDTV, one of the outfit members claimed that they had received permission to protest and get the outlets closed.  “We do not have a written permission but since we are very active here, we keep talking to them and thus, obtained a verbal permission,” he said.

Meanwhile, Abhishek Srivastava, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Indirapuram said that the police had reached the spot immediately after receiving complaint about a few youths creating ruckus demanding the closure of the food outlets. 

“Upon receiving the information, the police reached the spot immediately and removed them. Normal operation at the outlet was ensured. A case has been registered in Indirapuram Police Station in this regard and all those involved are being identified,” the ACP told news agency PTI.

Further legal proceedings regarding the matter are underway.
