WI vs PAK 2025, 3rd ODI Review: Hope, Seales star as West Indies’ seal three-match series

West Indies produced a clinical all-round performance to defeat Pakistan by 202 runs in the series-deciding third ODI at the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, on August 12. Shai Hope’s unbeaten 120 and Jayden Seales’ career-best 6/18 guided the hosts to their first ODI series win over Pakistan in 34 years, sealing the three-match series by a 2-1 margin.

The game began with Pakistan winning the toss and electing to bowl first. West Indies initially struggled to find rhythm against the opposition’s bowling attack. Mohammad Rizwan rotated his bowlers smartly, using part-time options to keep the scoring rate in check. By the 44th over, the hosts were yet to cross 200.

However, Hope smashed consecutive sixes off Mohammad Nawaz. Hope and Justin Greaves (43* off 24) took on the Pakistan bowlers in the final overs. The last seven overs produced 100 runs, pushing West Indies to 294/6. Hope’s 94-ball century, his 18th in ODIs, was supported by Roston Chase (36 off 29).

Pakistan’s chase never got going. Jayden Seales picked his first wicket in his opening over to remove Saim Ayub and followed up by dismissing Abdullah Shafique cheaply. He then got rid of Rizwan by a peach and Babar Azam lbw in quick succession.

Salman Agha (30) and Mohammad Nawaz (23*) put up some fight, but it wasn’t enough to get them over the line. Seales returned to clean up the tail, finishing with six wickets, the joint second-best figures for a West Indian in men’s ODIs. Gudakesh Motie (2/37) and Roston Chase (1/16) also chipped in with a few as Pakistan were bowled out for just 92 in 29.2 overs.

n that situation, it was important for someone to go deep. Wanted to give the best finish, something we struggled in the last couple of games. We hard a target of 270-280 if we batted well in the last ten overs. Roston gave us impetus, Greaves did well too. We had a complete game. Extremely proud of us beating Pakistan after so long. We stress on negatives a lot in WI. So many positives to shout about. Great to see the guys pulling off history. Seales is a quality bowler. More excited about his preparation sometimes. He’s a class act. Anything you ask him to do, he puts his hands up. He’s at his best across formats,” Hope said at the post-match interview.
