Distributors of Tata Consumer Products in Maharashtra have started a non-cooperation movement. They say they are unhappy with the company’s management, calling it unprofessional and poorly handled. The distributors also feel that the company has moved away from the core values that the Tata brand was once known for.
The All India Consumer Products Distributors Federation (AICPDF), representing these distributors, says their once-proud partnership with the Tata name has turned into frustration and financial pain.
Distributors who have been associated with Tata Consumer Products for decades say they now feel deeply disappointed by the company’s current management practices.
According to them, new policies have led to financial losses and damaged the long-standing sense of mutual respect that defined the Tata Group’s relationship with its trade partners.
Even after repeatedly raising their concerns, distributors allege that the company has ignored their grievances and treated them unfairly. Left with no alternative, they say they have been forced to take collective action.
What distributors are complaining about
The federation representing the distributors has listed several key issues:
– Distributors’ working capital has been stuck with the company for over two months, causing cash flow problems.
– Forced brand mergers have led to undercutting, reduced margins, and loss of market share for distributors.
– Unreasonable sales targets, poor coordination, and high staff turnover have crippled sales operations on the ground.
– Damage and expired goods claims worth crores have been pending for over 15 months without settlement.
– Rat damage and warehouse losses remain uncompensated despite repeated follow-ups from distributors.
– Distributors suspect system manipulation is reducing their margins and misrepresenting actual profitability.
– The company keeps pushing untested new products, causing stock dumping and blocking distributor funds.
– Payment claims related to damages and sales schemes have been stuck for 16 to 18 months.
– Damaged products are lying in warehouses and markets for over a year without audit, posing consumer safety risks.
Distributors Announce Boycott
In response, all Tata Consumer Products distributors in Maharashtra have decided to begin a non-cooperation movement. Starting October 13, 2025, they will stop placing new orders with the company. From October 20, 2025, they will suspend all secondary sales.
Dhairyashil Patil, National President of AICPDF, said distributors are not just sales channels — they are the backbone of the Tata legacy in trade. He urged the company’s senior management to take immediate corrective action before the situation worsens.
“The moral breach and mismanagement we are witnessing today have shaken decades of trust. The Tata name deserves better, and so do its trade partners,” Patil said.
