Google launches Workspace Studio to help users build AI agents for everyday tasks

Google has introduced Workspace Studio, a new hub that allows users to create, manage and share AI-powered agents to automate routine work across Google Workspace — all without writing a single line of code.

The tool is designed to move automation beyond simple rules or triggers. With Workspace Studio, users can build agents that can understand context, reason through tasks and adapt to new information. Google says these agents can handle more complex workflows, from prioritising daily tasks and triaging support requests to drafting content and analysing sentiment.

One of the biggest shifts comes from how these agents are created. Users can simply describe what they want in plain language — such as “remind me every Friday to update my tracker” — and Google’s Gemini model will build the automation. Since these agents work across Gmail, Drive, Sheets and other Workspace apps, they can pull context directly from emails, documents and the web to provide personalised responses or take actions automatically.

Workspace Studio also allows organisations to connect their agents to third-party services like Asana, Jira, Mailchimp and Salesforce. For teams with more advanced needs, Google is offering options to call external APIs through webhooks or build custom steps using Apps Script. Agents can also be shared with colleagues much like a Google Doc, helping teams scale these workflows across departments. Google is providing a library of ready-to-use templates as well, covering tasks such as daily email summaries, pre-meeting briefs and automatic labelling of action items.

Google says Workspace customers will get promotional access to higher usage limits as the feature rolls out, though final limits will be shared early next year. Users under 18, however, won’t be able to create agents using Gemini or access AI-powered steps.

Workspace Studio will begin rolling out to Rapid Release domains starting December 3, 2025, with Scheduled Release domains gaining user access from January 5, 2026. It will be available across most Business, Enterprise and Education Workspace editions.
