T20 World Cup 2026: ‘We don’t abuse players or break TVs’ – World Cup winner takes dig at Pakistan fans

Former Indian cricketer Madan Lal took a dig at Pakistan fans ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 clash between India and Pakistan. He remarked that Pakistani fans tend to abuse their own players and even break televisions if their team loses to India.

He emphasised that such reactions are not common among Indian fans, who treat it as just a game of cricket. He also suggested that the contest is not bigger than a World Cup final. The arch-rivals are set to meet at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on February 15.

“The most important match is the final one, not India vs Pakistan…. Though it has a very high viewership, and our relationship with Pakistan has not been good since 1947, so it becomes a more tense match. We consider it just a game in our country. We don’t start abusing our players, breaking televisions,” said Lal as quoted by NDTV.

Lal was asked about Pakistan’s boycott threat ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 match against India, and he questioned the involvement of the Pakistani Prime Minister in the matter. He remarked that Pakistan were attempting to humiliate India by refusing to play the fixture. Lal further stated that such a boycott would have harmed Pakistan more than India.

“Don’t play if you don’t want to; don’t play the entire tournament. It would harm their cricket. It won’t hurt us, other than a minor dip in the revenue. This would have only harmed Pakistan financially. If the ICC banned them, they would not have been able to pay salaries to their players. The Prime Minister getting involved is not a good thing. We saw how Mohsin Naqvi kept the Asia Cup trophy. They fought a lot in the Asia Cup and this T20 World Cup. Were you trying to humiliate India?,” said Lal.

Pakistan have defeated India only once in T20 World Cup history, with the Men in Blue leading the head-to-head record 7-1.
