Chennai Super Kings fast-bowler Mukesh Choudhary has left the squad ahead of their clash against the Mumbai Indians due to the passing of his mother.
Mukesh’s mother, Prem Devi, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, after a year-long battle with illness. She was being nursed at Mumbai’s Tata Hospital. Dainik Bhaskar had reported that the player immediately left for his hometown in Bhilwara, Rajasthan, after the Super Kings’ match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday, April 18.
The franchise shared a heartfelt message on their social media, expressing solidarity with the player and his family during their tough time.
“The CSK family mourns the passing of Mukesh Choudhary’s mother.
We stand with Mukesh and his family, keeping them in our thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time,” the franchise wrote, in a message on X (formerly Twitter).

Mukesh is reportedly set to miss the high-octane clash against arch-rivals Mumbai Indians on April 23 at the Wankhede Stadium.
As reported by OneIndia, MS Dhoni remained in constant contact with the fast bowler and offered his support to his Super Kings teammate during the tough times. He also took time out to visit Choudhary’s mother in the hospital.
The left-arm quick made his first appearance of the 2026 season against the Sunrisers, coming into the squad in place of the injured Khaleel Ahmed, who has been ruled out of the season with a right quadricep injury. He picked up the two big wickets of Travis Head and Ishan Kishan in Super Kings’ 10-run loss.
CSK have had a tumultuous season in 2026, having won just two matches. They find themselves languishing at the eighth spot in the table. They have had poor luck with injuries, with Australian fast-bowler Nathan Ellis ruled out before the start of the tournament and Khaleel Ahmed being ruled out after a good start to the season. They come into the clash against their arch-rivals in dire need of a victory to get their season back on track.
