
In more trouble for cash starved private sector airline SpiceJet, Indonesia-based aircraft lessor PT BBN Airlines has filed an insolvency petition against the Indian company over certain outstanding payments. The petition was filed in the Delhi unit of insolvency court National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).
PT BBN Airlines has stated that SpiceJet has yet to clear aircraft lease-related dues amounting to $5.94 million owed to it for months.
SpiceJet has sought time to respond to the issue.

The NCLT is due to hear the matter next on April 21.
On Friday, SpiceJet shares ended weaker by Re 0.56, or 1.2 per cent, at Rs 47.98 apices on BSE.
The financial trouble has been mounting for the Indian airline.
Earlier, three other aircraft lessors, NGF Alpha, NGF Genesis and NGF Charlie, and a former pilot at the airline filed similar pleas against SpiceJet over outstanding dues.
The three lessors’ dues amount to $12.68 million (about ₹ 110 crore).
This week, Spicejet promoter Ajay Singh sold around 2 crore shares in the airline for a sum of Rs 90 crore through the open market.
Provisional bulk deals data available with exchanges showed that Singh, offloaded the shares, representing 1.6 per cent of the company’s equity, at an average price of Rs 45 apiece.
Out of those, 75 lakh SpiceJet shares were grabbed by Plutus Wealth Management, a boutique investment firm, the data showed. Other buyers could not be ascertained immediately.
Singh is the chairman and managing director of the airline.
Prior to that, Singh sold a nearly 1 per cent stake in the airline for Rs 52 crore.
In February, SpiceJet logged a net profit of Rs 26 crore for the three months ended December 31.
