Maha Kumbh Fire: Another fire broke out at the Maha Kumbh Mela around midnight. The incident took place in Swami Upendranand Ji Maharaj’s camp in Sector 19. Many tents, which were unoccupied, were burnt to ashes.
Fire brigade vehicles reached the spot and controlled the blaze. The incident comes just days after a moving bike caught fire at the Alopi Bagh entry point. The bike was gutted to fire in the middle of the intersection.
Vehicles and devotees on foot were immediately stopped as the administration and police put up barricades around the intersection. The public was moved away from the fire. The entire intersection was evacuated in view of the possibility of an explosion following the fire.
A fire brigade team reached the spot within five minutes and extinguished the fire. But by then, the bike had burnt to ashes.
Officials suspect the fire could have been sparked due to overheating as the biker was stuck in a traffic jam for a long time.
Earlier, a fire broke out at an ashram in Sector 19 of the Maha Kumbh area. On February 13, officials said a fire broke out at the police line camp near Nagvasuki on Bindu Madhav Marg in Sector 6 of the Maha Kumbh, gutting two tents. However, no casualties were reported.
Chief Fire Officer (Kumbh) Pramod Sharma said that smoke was seen rising from the police line camp in Sector 6 under Nagvasuki police station limits around noon.
