Arvind Kejriwal To Take Rajya Sabha Route From Punjab? Congress Veteran Has This To Say

Amid growing speculation about Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal entering the Rajya Sabha, Punjab Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa has claimed that the move is certain. According to reports, Kejriwal is considering a new political move, with speculation suggesting he may enter the Rajya Sabha from Punjab. However, neither Kejriwal nor AAP has made any official statement regarding this.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Bajwa stated, “This will 100% happen. First, Kejriwal wanted to come through Gurpreet’s (deceased AAP MLA Gurpreet Gogi) seat. But then he felt that this would have a massive reaction in Punjab and Punjabis wouldn’t stand outsiders. So, he took a step back. Most probably, there can be some truth to the information regarding Arora sahab (speculations around AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora contesting Ludhiana West Assembly bypoll).”

A report by The Tribune, citing sources, stated that AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora might contest the Ludhiana West Assembly bypoll, marking his entry into state politics. The report also mentioned that AAP is considering sending Kejriwal to the Rajya Sabha in place of Arora. Additionally, Tribune sources claimed that six other AAP Rajya Sabha MPs from Punjab had offered their seats to Kejriwal, but he has not accepted any proposal.

After Punjab AAP MLAs’ Meeting With Kejriwal, BJP’s Manjinder Sirsa Claimed Bid To Replace Mann

The discussions reportedly gained momentum following Kejriwal’s meeting with Punjab MLAs and the state government in Delhi on 11 February. While AAP MLAs denied any internal rift, speculation emerged that Kejriwal could take on a more significant role in Punjab, possibly contesting from the Ludhiana Assembly seat. However, AAP’s Punjab leaders have outrightly rejected these claims, ABP Sanjha reported.

Meanwhile, BJP leader and Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa had earlier alleged that Kejriwal could sideline Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Sirsa had claimed, “It is being said that Kejriwal will declare Bhagwant Mann incompetent and inefficient, citing unfulfilled promises such as providing ₹1,000 to women and controlling drug abuse. Now, he wants to put all failure on Bhagwant Mann. He is making AAP Punjab MLAs say that Kejriwal is a ‘good man’ and should be made Chief Minister instead!”

Following AAP’s electoral setbacks in Delhi, speculation about Kejriwal shifting his focus to Punjab has intensified. In the Delhi Assembly elections, Kejriwal faced a major blow, losing his New Delhi seat to BJP’s Pravesh Verma by over 4,000 votes while his party lost power in the national capital at the hands of the BJP.
