Assam Polls: Congress Releases 42-Name List; Gaurav Gogoi To Contest Assembly Election

The Congress party has intensified preparations for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections by releasing its first list of 42 candidates. Among the prominent names is Lok Sabha MP from Jorhat, Gaurav Gogoi, who will contest the Assembly polls. Gogoi’s candidature signals the party’s strategic push to strengthen its position in the state by fielding senior leaders in key constituencies. The announcement marks a significant development in the run-up to the Assam Assembly elections, as major parties begin finalising their line-ups.

Gogoi Thanks Congress Leadership

Gogoi expressed gratitude to the party’s top leadership after being named a candidate for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections. He thanked Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, CPP Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, KC Venugopal, Jitendra Singh and members of the Central Election Committee for their guidance and faith in him.

Gogoi also acknowledged the people of Jorhat for their support, stating that he would not have reached this position without them. He paid tribute to his late father, former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, saying he had taught him the values of being both an Assamese and a Congressman.

He further thanked his family -his mother, sister, wife and two children-for their support and resilience. Calling on party workers and supporters, Gogoi urged them to work towards taking Assam in a “new and bold direction” and reiterated his vision of building a “Natun Bor Axom” (New Assam).
