BEML Limited has inaugurated a state-of-the-art warehousing facility in the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) Aerospace Special Economic Zone (SEZ) near Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru. The newly developed facility, spread across 0.12 acres, marks the first phase of BEML’s strategic expansion into the aerospace domain.
The facility was inaugurated by Shri Shantanu Roy, Chairman and Managing Director of BEML, in the presence of company directors, senior officials, and KIADB representatives. Reinforcing its commitment to transforming Bengaluru into a global aerospace hub, BEML also laid the foundation stone for Phase-II, which will involve the development of an additional 1.15 acres of aerospace infrastructure within the SEZ.
Currently, BEML holds a 25-acre land bank in the Aerospace SEZ. This land is envisioned to be transformed into a robust industrial ecosystem, catering to both domestic and international Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in the rapidly growing defence and aviation sectors.
“The inauguration of this warehousing facility marks a significant step in BEML’s journey to becoming a key enabler in India’s aerospace and defence ecosystem. This is more than just infrastructure—it’s a strategic foundation for future capabilities in advanced manufacturing, MRO services, and global exports,” said CMD Shantanu Roy during the launch event.
The aerospace warehousing unit is designed not just for internal logistics but will also provide services to other OEMs, Tier-1, and Tier-2 suppliers. BEML has signed a service agreement with LOM Supply Chain India, a reputed logistics firm, to manage its SEZ and Domestic Tariff Area operations.
Looking ahead, BEML plans to build a dedicated manufacturing unit across 20 acres in the SEZ to produce advanced aerostructures, drones, aggregates, and critical components for air defence. This will be carried out through collaborations with global aerospace OEMs, bolstering BEML’s global footprint in aerospace production.
Strategically located near major roadways like NH-7 and the Outer Ring Road, the facility is well-positioned for efficient trade and logistics. It is expected to generate over 500 jobs, contributing significantly to regional economic development.
BEML also envisions establishing a Centre of Excellence for Aerospace Technologies within the SEZ, supporting India’s drive for self-reliance in defence and aerospace and fostering a culture of innovation and industry collaboration.
BEML Limited, a ‘Schedule A’ PSU under the Ministry of Defence, operates across Defence & Aerospace, Mining & Construction, and Rail & Metro sectors, with manufacturing units in Bengaluru, Kolar Gold Fields, Mysore, and Palakkad.
