BSF Apprehends Pakistani Ranger In Rajasthan Amid Standoff Over Detained Indian Jawan: Report

The Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended a Pakistani Ranger from along the India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan, reports news agency PTI quoting official sources on Saturday. The development comes a fortnight after a BSF jawan was apprehended by the Rangers amid rising tension between the two countries in the wake of the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed.

According to PTI quoting officials, the Pakistani Ranger has been taken into custody by the Rajasthan frontier of the force. BSF jawab Purnam Kumar Shaw was apprehended by the Rangers on April 23 from along this international border in Punjab, and they have refused to hand him over despite a strong protest registered by the Indian force. 

Earlier on April 23, a BSF jawan, Purnam Kumar Shaw, was detained by the Pakistani forces along the international border in Punjab. Several rounds of talks have been held regarding his release. However, they have not yet yielded any results for now.

According to News18, the BSF officials have been given the same reply from Pakistan time and again: “We are waiting for directions from the higher-ups”.

The development comes as both India and Pakistan have witnessed a rise in tension after the attack in Jammu-Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed 26 lives and left several others injured.

Police carry out searches at multiple locations in Srinagar

On Saturday, Police carried out searches at multiple locations in Srinagar as part of a clampdown on the terror ecosystem in the wake of the Pahalgam attack. According to news agency PTI, a spokesperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Police said they have intensified searches across multiple locations in the city, with the aim to dismantle the terror-supporting infrastructure in the district. 

The spokesperson said the searches were conducted at five places in the city.The searches were carried out in accordance with proper legal procedures, in the presence of executive magistrates and independent witnesses and under the supervision of officers of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, he said as quoted by news agency PTI.
