Delhi Summers To Get Harsher With No Respite From Heatwave

The summers in Delhi are only going to get harsher as more heatwaves has been predicted to hit the city in the coming days, according to the India Meteorolgical Department.

The city recorded a maximum temperature of 37.4 degrees Celsius as at 8:30 am on Sunday while the minimum temperature was logged at 17.3 degrees Celsius. 

On Saturday, the maximum tempeature was at 35.7 degrees Celsius, 1.7 notch above the seasonal average. The minimum temperature was 19.5 degrees Celsius, was 0.7 notch above average.

For Sunday, the weather department has predicted a clear sky with heatwave conditions at isolated places. The heatwave condition is likely to prevail in the national capital and adjoining areas for at least the next two days with the mercury likely to soar to 42 degrees Celsius.

The Air Quality Index of the city as at 9 pm was 198, according to the data from Central Pollution Control Board. An AQI between 0-50 is considered ‘good’, 51-100 ‘satisfactory’, 101-200 ‘moderate’, 201-300 ‘poor’, 301-400 ‘very poor’, and 401-500 ‘severe’.

Heatwave In Other Parts Of Country 

Other parts of North India are also expected to have no relief from the heatwave in the coming days. The weather department has warned of a heatwave in parts of Rajasthan with an orange alert amid above-normal maximum temperature. 

“Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions very likely to continue to prevail at isolated to few pockets of Saurashtra & Kutch, West Rajasthan during 06th-09th and East Rajasthan on 07th April,” said the IMD in its forecast bulletin on Sunday. 

“Heatwave conditions very likely in isolated pockets of Rajasthan during 06th-10th; West Uttar Pradesh, south Haryana, Delhi, Punjab on 07th & 08th; Himachal Pradesh during 06th-07th; Gujarat Region during 06th-09th; West Madhya Pradesh during 07th-10th, East Madhya Pradesh on 08th & 09th and Vidarbha on 09th & 10th April,” it added
