Eid celebrations for a family in Delhi turned into a tragedy, after their two-year-old daughter was crushed to death while she was playing outside her home in central Delhi’s Paharganj area on Sunday.
The vehicle was owned by the neighbour, identified as Pankaj Agarwal, but the car was driven by his teenage son. Both of them have been arrested, police said on Monday, news agency PTI reported.
Police added that the incident took place around 6.15 pm at Ram Nagar in Paharganj and was captured on CCTV. The chilling incident captured on CCTV showed that the car approached the toddler slowly before coming to a halt. In the meantime, the car suddenly moved forward and crushed the child under the left front wheel.
Following the incidents, locals rushed to rescue the girl, and they took the girl to a hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead, a police officer said.
Police further added that a case has been filed at Nabi Karim police station under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 281 (rash and negligent driving) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence), and further investigation is still in process.
As per the NDTV report, Pankaj Agarwal’s 15-year-old son was driving a Hyundai Venue car.
UP Man Dies In Road Accident
In a separate incident, on March 19, a man rushing home after learning of his wife’s death died in a bike accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly. Sanjay, aged 28, was travelling on a motorcycle with his younger brother Rinku when a vehicle hit them on National Highway 24 late Monday night. The collision’s impact threw both brothers onto the road, along with their motorcycle. Bystanders alerted the police, who rushed them to the hospital.
Sanjay died on the spot, while Rinku suffered serious injuries. He is receiving treatment at a private hospital in Bareilly, Superintendent of Police (North) Mukesh Chandra Mishra said.
Sanjay, a resident of Ramuapur Raghuveer village in Bahraich’s Kaiserganj Police Station area, worked as a labourer in Punjab. Upon receiving news of his wife’s death, he immediately left for home with his brother. However, his journey ended in tragedy.
“Doctors declared Sanjay dead on arrival, while Rinku remains in critical condition,” Mishra said. “Sanjay’s body was sent for post-mortem and has now been transported to Bahraich,” the Superintendent of Police said.
