‘Drishyam-Style’ Murder In Maha: Woman, ‘Lover’ Held After Husband Found Buried Under Tiles

‘Drishyam-Style’ Murder In Maha: Woman, ‘Lover’ Held After Husband Found Buried Under Tiles

Maharashtra Police have arrested a woman and her alleged lover from Pune for allegedly murdering her husband and burying his body inside their home—drawing comparisons to the Malayalam-Hindi thriller ‘Drishyam’. The case came to light in Nalasopara, a suburb on the outskirts of Mumbai.

Husband Went Missing, Phone Switched Off

The victim, 34-year-old Vijay Chouhan, lived with his wife Chaman Devi (28) and their child in a housing society located in Gangnipada, Nalasopara. He had not been seen since Sunday night. His brother, a resident of Bilalpada, had tried contacting him for financial assistance but was unable to reach him.

“His sister-in-law said he was working on the Kurla building. Later, her phone also went off. She had also disappeared,” Senior Police Inspector Jitendra Vankoti told ANI.

Failing to trace Vijay, his brother approached the police on Sunday night and filed a missing person’s report. The next day, family members visited his home, only to find newly laid tiles that stood out due to their different colour, raising suspicions.

As suspicion mounted, the brothers pried open the new tiles and noticed a foul odour. They immediately contacted the police. The police team, along with forensic experts and the local tehsildar, visited the residence. Upon removal of the tiles, the body of Vijay Chouhan was discovered buried beneath. His remains were sent to the hospital for post-mortem and further examination, as reported by PTI.

The body was later exhumed and taken in for forensic analysis.

Wife And Lover Nabbed From Pune

Investigators suspect that Vijay was killed by his wife and a neighbour named Monu, with whom she was reportedly having an affair. Another local resident is also suspected to be involved, as per PTI. Both the wife and Monu had been absconding since the incident, but Nalasopara Police tracked them down in Pune and took them into custody. The duo is now being brought to Pelhar Police Station for further investigation.

Speaking to reporters, the deceased’s friend Safruddin Ansari recalled how Vijay’s brothers had been searching for him over the past two days. “He has been in contact with me for the last 10-15 years and was a very nice individual… His brothers are saying Vijay’s wife might have eloped with a neighbour,” he said.

While police believe the motive behind the killing may be linked to the extramarital affair, the exact manner in which Vijay was murdered remains under investigation.
