The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Congress leader and former Rajasthan minister Mahesh Joshi in Jal Jeevan Mission linked money laundering case.
Joshi was taken into custody under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) by the federal probe agency in Jaipur, PTI quoted officials as saying. Apart from Joshi, four others have been arrested in the case by the ED till now.
The money laundering case stems from an FIR registered by Rajasthan’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) into the state government scheme that aims to provide safe and adequate drinking water through household tap connections. The scheme was being implemented in Rajasthan by the state’s Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department.
Earlier in November last year, the Anti-Corruption Bureau of Rajasthan had registered an FIR against Joshi and 21 others in connection with the Jal Jeevan Mission scam.
The former minister has been accused of misusing his official powers during the previous government. Mahesh Joshi was the cabinet minister for the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) in the then Ashok Gehlot government.
