Crediting the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, he noted, “This strength comes from the resolve of a self-reliant India. There was a time when we depended on other countries for defence. We started working to change that situation.”
He added, “Being self-reliant in defence is necessary for our economy, but it is equally important for the nation’s self-respect. That’s why we launched the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign to free the country from this dependence.”
Highlighting Uttar Pradesh’s role in defence manufacturing, Modi said, “It is a matter of pride for the entire state that it is playing a major role in achieving defence self-reliance. For example, the old ordnance factory in Kanpur, along with six others, has been transformed into modern defence companies.”
He also referred to Amethi, where production of AK-203 rifles has begun, and added that the BrahMos missile used in Operation Sindoor now has a new address — Uttar Pradesh.
Commenting on infrastructure development, he said, “The infrastructure, amenities, and resources found in big metro cities can now be seen in our Kanpur. The Kanpur Metro is proof that with the right intentions, strong willpower, and an honest government, sincere efforts can be made for the development of the state and country.”
Referring to the Pahalgam terror attack, he mentioned that his visit to Kanpur, originally scheduled for 24 April, had to be cancelled due to the attack. “In the cowardly Pahalgam attack, our son from Kanpur, Shubham Dwivedi, was brutally killed. We all can feel the pain, suffering, and deep anger of daughter Aashanya.”
PM Modi Inaugurates, Lays Foundation For Development Projects Worth Over ₹47,600 Crore
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi also inaugurated and laid the foundation for 15 major development projects worth over ₹47,600 crore. These include the new underground section of the Kanpur Metro from Chunniganj to Kanpur Central, featuring five stations — Chunniganj, Bada Chauraha, Naveen Market, Nayaganj, and Kanpur Central — connecting key landmarks such as Lal Imli, Z Square Mall, Green Park Stadium, Parade Ground, Book Market, and Somdutt Plaza.
According to the official statement, this expansion aims to make metro travel in Kanpur faster, safer, and more convenient. Currently, nine stations are operational from IIT Kanpur to Motijheel.
