ENG vs IND 2025, 2nd Test Review: India script historic win at Edgbaston, level Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 1-1

India made history at Edgbaston, clinching their first-ever Test victory at the iconic venue with a dominant performance in the second Test of the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. The visitors bowled out England to seal an emphatic win by 336 runs and level the series 1-1 after setting a mammoth target of 608 runs, which the Bazball-driven hosts failed to chase down.

India’s bowlers were relentless on Day 5. Akash Deep struck early, surprising Ollie Pope with a good-length delivery that popped up and crashed onto his stumps. He followed it up with a fiery ball that pinned Harry Brook on the inside of his left knee, leaving the batter unable to respond as England slumped to 83 for the loss of five wickets.

Next up, wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith walked in to join his skipper Ben Stokes, and the pair tried to counter-attack by finding the boundaries where possible. However, at the stroke of Lunch, England were reduced to 153 for 6, with the England skipper sent packing by Washington Sundar for just 33. Jamie Smith brought up his seventh fifty-plus score, reaching the mark in 73 balls.

After the break, Prasidh Krishna struck from the Pavilion End, bowling a sharp delivery that surprised Chris Woakes with its bounce and pace, resulting in a tame catch at mid-wicket. Smith, having survived a close lbw call, responded with back-to-back sixes, but Akash Deep ended his stay with a wide short ball that he nicked to Sundar, stationed in the deep.

Experienced spinner Ravindra Jadeja then removed Josh Tongue with the help of a spectacular catch by Mohammed Siraj, leaving India one wicket away from victory. Deep returned to claim the final wicket, sealing his maiden five-wicket haul in red-ball cricket and finishing with match figures of 10 wickets, becoming only the second Indian to achieve a 10-wicket haul in a Test in England, after Chetan Sharma (10/188), also at Edgbaston in 1986.

Shubman Gill, who led India with the bat, was named Player of the Match for his exceptional knocks, 269 in the first innings and 161 in the second. With the series now level at 1-1, the third Test will take place at Lord’s, beginning July 10.
