A youth planned his own kidnapping with his two friends to extort money from his own family. The unemployed 22-year-old from Nala Sopara city in the Palghar district, Maharashtra, wanted money to start his own printing business, so he hatched this plan.
According to the Achole Police, Rohan Tiwari and his two friends, Kaushal Dubey, 21, and Nikhil Singh, 22, were arrested within 24 hours of his alleged kidnapping. After his arrest, Tiwari confessed to committing the crime, he said his family would have refused to invest money in his business venture.
On Tuesday night, Tiwari’s family received a video in which he was tied up at an undisclosed location, and two kidnappers were seen assaulting him, the police said.
An official from the Achole police station said that in the video, Rohan was seen bleeding while two who were assaulting Tiwari demanded Rs 3 lakh from his family and threatened to kill him if it wasn’t delivered. Tiwari’s uncle immediately contacted the police that night.
An FIR was registered, and police began the investigation. They first traced Rohan’s phone location, and it was found to be in the Chembur area. The Achole police immediately contacted Shivaji Nagar Police in Mumbai, however, but by the time the police got to the location, Rohan’s phone had been switched off.

Upon the police’s advice, Tiwari’s family transferred Rs 5,000 to the kidnappers. However, there was still no trace of Rohan. The next day, Rohan and his friends went to a hotel in Chembur for breakfast, where the staff—already alerted by the police—immediately informed the authorities. The police then took everyone into custody.
The police investigation revealed that Rohan and his friends had orchestrated the entire kidnapping themselves. To make the act look convincing, one of his friends even applied makeup on Rohan’s face to make it look like injuries.
