Sai Kishore credited Chennai Super Kings’ role in nurturing him as a cricketer. Currently at Gujarat Titans, the left-arm spinner shared that the two years with the Men in Yellow felt like an ‘internship’ more than anything.
Kishore did not get to represent CSK in the couple of years he was with them while mainly serving as a net bowler. However, he seemed to have a lot of positive experiences with the franchise.
“Yeah, CSK played a huge role in shaping me. It felt like two years of internship! CSK was the first team that picked me at the auction from the [Syed] Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Those two years were really valuable. I learned a lot – I used to constantly ask questions about how to handle different situations. But honestly, you only truly learn when you play. You can have all these theories in your head, but it sticks only when you experience it on the field,” shared Kishore in a conversation with JioHotstar.
Kishore reflects on influence of Dhoni, Nehra, Ashwin on him
The shrewd cricketer commented on the likes of MS Dhoni, Ashish Nehra, and Ravichandran Ashwin on how each of them has helped in shaping him into a much more enhanced version as a bowler and cricketing professional.
“I can’t look past MS Dhoni – the influence he’s had on me has been huge. The way he led the team, the calmness with which he approached different situations — that’s really shaped the way I see the game and the way I operate. Another big influence is Ashu [Nehra] pa (our coach). The way he handles the team, it’s unique – it’s not common for a coach to have such a calm and controlled presence. And then there’s Ashu [Ashwin] bhai, who’s also made a great impact on me. So, I’d say MS Dhoni and Ashu bhai are the two people who have really shaped my cricket,” added Kishore.
Kishore has been in fine form with GT this season. In his third gig with the franchise, he has been able to scalp a total of 14 wickets in 11 games so far. The champions of the 2022 edition will take on Delhi Capitals in Delhi on Sunday, May 11.
