Former Vice President Late Krishan Kant’s Grandson Virat Joins BJP In Punjab

Virat Kant, the grandson of the former Vice President of India late Krishan Kant, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday in the presence of BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh and Punjab Chief  Sunil Jakhar.

After joining the saffron party, Virat Kant thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and party President JP Nadda for giving him the opportunity. He asserted that his role in the party will be only focused on strengthening Punjab.

“First of all, I would like to sincerely thank our Prime Minister, Union Home Minister, Party President JP Nadda, the state leadership, Sunil Jakhar, and Tarun Chugh from the bottom of my heart for giving me the opportunity to join the BJP. My role will be focused on just one thing – to strengthen Punjab,” he said.

BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh called the move a “big milestone” and a “masterstroke,” recalling how Virat Kant’s grandfather served as the country’s Vice President, and how he was now following his footsteps.

“This is a masterstroke… His late grandfather contributed to the independence movement… He was also the Vice President of India. Now, his grandson joining the BJP is a big milestone… By seeing the work of PM Modi towards the poor and their vision, people from across the nation are joining the BJP,” he said.

Meanwhile, Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar expressed happiness on the growth of the party and called Virat Kant a reflection of Punjab’s youth. He also recalled how his grandfather was known as the “Gandhi of Punjab”.

“This is how a party grows. Virat Kant’s grandfather Krishna Kant was the Vice President of India. Even, Krishna Kant’s father was called the Gandhi of Punjab. Virat Kant Ji is a reflection of Punjab’s youth. Punjab has been mortgaged by the leadership,” he remarked.

Krishan Kant died at the age of 75 after suffering a massive heart attack in his office in July 2002. He was rushed to the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences after he complained of chest pain. Thereafter, the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpaye chaied an emergency Cabinet meeting and declared a three-day national mourning.
