The Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) spin bowling coach Malolan Rangarajan shared insights on playing Suyash Sharma and Krunal Pandya together and the benefits it has given the team in the IPL 2025. The Bengaluru-based franchise secured its first victory on its home ground, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, against Rajasthan Royals on April 24, solidifying their position on the Points Table.
Taking on the Royals, Pandya claimed two wickets, whereas Suyash remained wicketless. However, RCB managed to win the match by 11 runs. They are just two games away from a near-confirmed berth for playoffs of the ongoing edition. This time, the team looks all set to give tough competition to the other teams.
Rangarajan gave clarity on Suyash’s bowling and how he manages to trap the batters in crunch situations. He gave instances where the bowler dismissed Josh Inglis (against PBKS) and Andre Russell (against KKR), providing the much-needed breakthroughs to the team at crucial junctures of the game.
“Suyash, I think, has a big point of difference. His speed being one, and we think one of his super-strengths is the ability to beat the bat on both edges. He showed that with the dismissal of Josh Inglis which was outside of the bat. The dismissal of Russell was through the batter. So, he does turn the ball. His super-strength, is the ability to turn the ball, beat the bat on both edges, and bowl at a very high speed, so to say. Plus, his action is peculiar in its own way. So, that makes it slightly tough for the batter to read,” said RCB’s spin-bowling coach Malolan Rangarajan in a pre-match press conference.
Krunal Pandya and his change in bowling action
Rangarajan also spoke about Pandya and how he has improved his bowling action. It is pretty evident that Pandya has been in incredible form this season, especially with the ball, claiming 12 wickets in nine matches. Captain Rajat Patidar has used the bowler well in the IPL.
“As far as Krunal Pandya is concerned, he is somebody who, if you saw his videos from 2016 or 2017-18, it was a completely different action. He’s worked on his action. His release is very different from what it was, maybe even two years back,” added Rangarajan.
The spin duo will be once again ready to put their prowess on display in RCB’s next clash as they take on the Delhi Capitals on Sunday, April 27 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The franchise is currently unbeaten away from home, and will look to maintain the streak on Sunday as well.
