The Calcutta High Court has granted various Hindu organisations to hold Ram Navami processions in Howrah. The Calcutta High Court said Anjani Putra Sena and Vishwa Hindu Parishad members can hold the Ram Navami procession and police security must be provided to them.
However, the court also prohibited the display or use of any weapon made of metal in the processions. Religious symbols, including swords and trishuls (tridents), if displayed, must be made of PVC and not metal, the court said.
Proposed Route For Rally
As per the court’s order, the rally will start at Narasimha Mandir and participants will march till Howrah Maidan via GT Road. Both organisations can have 500 participants each in their respective processions. The Anjani Putra Sena will hold its procession from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM and the Vishva Hindu Parishad will hold its procession from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
The court has also specified the routes for both the rallies. In addition, the court has also asked the organisations to have the names of the participants (with their IDs) registered with the police.
Howrah Police Had Denied Permit
The Howrah Police on Thursday denied permission for the rallies, citing the violation of court orders and large-scale violence along the proposed routes in 2022, 2023, and 2024. Following the police’s denial, the organisations moved the court.
Last year, the court had allowed only 200 people to participate in the Ram Navami procession. However, according to the police, nearly 5,000 people had joined in the rally. DJs and bikes were also used in the procession, despite a court ban.
