Yusuf Pathan recently shared his happiness during an interview with his younger brother, Irfan Pathan, after Vaibhav Suryavanshi broke his record for the fastest century by an Indian batter in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 14-year-old achieved this feat during the Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) clash against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Monday, April 28.
Suryavanshi smashed 101 off 38 deliveries, hitting seven fours and 11 sixes. He got to his century off just 35 balls. He bettered Yusuf’s record, who had slammed a 37-ball ton against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2010, while playing for RR. Suryavanshi also registered the second-fastest century in IPL history, displacing Yusuf. The World Cup winner was happy to see an Indian batter go above him in the record books.
“I feel very proud that the Indian player of the fastest century was in my name. And now the second Indian player who has made the fastest century is also an Indian. So it feels very good to see that Vaibhav broke that record,” Yusuf said in an episode of #SeedhiBaat with Irfan Pathan.
Yusuf said that he spoke with Suryavanshi after the match and congratulated him. The multiple-time IPL winner was also happy to see someone from Rajasthan Royals breaking his record.
“Absolutely, I talked to him. I called Romi, the team manager of Rajasthan Royals. I couldn’t stay away from him because it is a big achievement. It is a must that whoever has done this work should be congratulated and talked to. This is a 14-year-old boy who broke the record. I played with the same team for the first three seasons of the IPL. I also liked that someone from Rajasthan Royals broke the record. I couldn’t stay away from him, and I called him. I talked to Vaibhav, and I was very happy that he broke the record. I congratulated him and I was very happy,” Yusuf said.
He said that he doesn’t think much: Yusuf Pathan
Yusuf recalled that Suryavanshi told him he does not think too much about what he has to do and focuses on going out to the ground and enjoying his batting.
“Romi Iyer introduced that Yusuf Pathan is talking to you. He used to play in our team. I told him [Vaibhav] that you might not recognise me, I am Yusuf Pathan. You batted very well, and I saw a very good interview of you. I told him that you don’t think much and only play. He said that he doesn’t think much, and he doesn’t have to think about what he has to do. He can enjoy and bat on the cricket ground. He can do whatever he wants without thinking,” Yusuf mentioned.
