IED Blast Kills Jharkhand Jaguar Constable, CRPF Jawan Injured; Top Cop Vows ‘Revenge’

A Jharkhand Jaguar constable was killed, while a CRPF jawan sustained injuries in an IED blast in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district on Saturday, a police officer confirmed. The incident occurred at Radhapora area under Jaraikela police station limits.

Two jawans—Vishnu Saini from the CoBRA 203 battalion and Sunil Dhan from Jharkhand Jaguar—were injured in the blast. Both were airlifted to Ranchi for better medical treatment, Kolhan DIG Manoj Ratan Chothe told news agency PTI.

Saini and Dhan were identified as the injured jawans, with Dhan succumbing to his injuries during treatment at a hospital in Ranchi, according to a police statement. “The condition of Saini is stated to be critical,” the statement added.

The attack took place in a forested area located between the border of Chhotanagra and Jaraikela police stations, where Naxalites opened fire and triggered an IED targeting security forces during an ongoing operation. In response, the security forces retaliated. However, the Maoists took advantage of the dense forests to escape, the police statement mentioned.

Chothe confirmed that an anti-Maoist operation has been underway in the region, during which security forces have successfully defused several IEDs.

Jharkhand e Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Gupta said, “At 2:03 am, one of our COBRA units moved into the jungle. A blast occurred near our Radha Phoda base camp, injuring CRPF jawan Vishnu. When a Jharkhand Jaguar (JJ) team was sent for evacuation, a landmine exploded, tragically killing Sunil, a young soldier from our ZEP-3 unit. We are deeply saddened that our soldier lost his life in this way. This is the final battle against the Naxals in Jharkhand. We are fully engaged in this mission, and the few who are left, we will eliminate them. We will definitely take revenge for this.”

Six Naxals Arrested in Jharkhand’s Latehar

Meanwhile, in a separate operation in Jharkhand’s Latehar district, six Naxals, including prominent figures from the banned Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC) outfit, were arrested on Saturday. Those arrested include self-styled ‘sub-zonal commanders’ Narayan Bhokta alias Aadit and Alok Yadav alias Amresh Yadav, as well as ‘area commander’ Amit Dubey alias Chote Baba. Additionally, cadres Mahendra Thakur, Imran Ansari, and Sanjay Oraon were taken into custody.

The arrests took place in the Hesabar-Bhang forest area under Balumath police station jurisdiction on Friday. Latehar Superintendent of Police Kumar Gaurav stated that the arrests followed a tip-off, after which a team led by Balumath SDPO surrounded and apprehended the red rebels.

The operation also led to the recovery of four rifles, a revolver, and 1,102 cartridges from the arrested individuals, Gaurav added.
