IND vs SA 2025: Harshit Rana found guilty of ICC Code of Conduct breach in Ranchi ODI | CricTracker

The International Cricket Council (ICC) pace bowler Harshit Rana for an incident that took place during the first One-Day International (ODI) between India and South Africa at the JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi on Sunday, November 30, as the hosts won the match by 17 runs. A provocative gesture was the reason behind the reprimand.

Harshit was found guilty of breaching the Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to the provocation of an aggressive reaction or disparage from a batter upon their dismissal during an international match caused due to the usage of language, gestures, and/or actions by the bowler or any other teammate.

The event took place during the 22nd over of South Africa’s chase in the Ranchi encounter, when the India bowler gestured South Africa’s Dewald Brevis to depart towards the dressing room after the latter was dismissed. Match referee Richie Richardson took a note of this gesture and sanctioned Rana for his provocative remark.

In his response, Rana accepted the sanction without challenge, following which, Richardson added a demerit point to the cricketer’s disciplinary record. It is worth mentioning that this was Rana’s first Code of Conduct breach in the last twenty-four months, and hence, the demerit points will remain in effect for a period of 24 months following the date of first occurrence of the breach.

Speaking of Rana’s performance in the first ODI, the right-arm pacer was brilliant with the ball for the Men in Blue, as his 3/65 in a high-scoring thriller ensured India did not let the visitors cross the finishing line in the second innings. His three-wicket haul also included a couple of strikes in his second over itself, where he got the better of Ryan Rickelton and Quinton de Kock, with Brevis being his third wicket of the night, of course.
