IND vs WI 2025: ‘Giving me awareness on what shots to play’ – Sai Sudharsan shares experience of batting with Yashasvi Jaiswal

India No. 3 batter Sai Sudharsan has recently shared the immense learnings he has tried to imbibe while batting along with star opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal. The duo of Jaiswal and Sudharsan was involved in a 193-run stand for the second wicket on Day 1 of the second Test between India and West Indies in New Delhi.

The Tamil Nadu cricketer spoke about how he was more free while playing this time around as compared to his time at the crease in the first Test in Ahmedabad. The left-handed batter, who narrowly missed out on getting his maiden hundred in Tests, commented that he will want to capitalize and score more runs in the future.

“It was a good contribution, good partnership between me and Jaiswal. Hopefully, we’ll have longer partnerships and get a big score. Definitely, I wasn’t thinking about getting runs, so I was a bit more free, expressed myself, took time rather than rushing things. I didn’t try to make things happen. Grateful for whatever I’ve done, but there’s always something in the mind to make a lot more, happy with the runs, but would want to make more,” stated Sudharsan on air at the end of day’s play.

Furthermore, Sudharsan also shared how batting along with Jaiswal has given the former more mental awareness in terms of playing which shot when. Lastly, he assessed how the pitch was playing and how it might respond as the game goes on.

“Exciting to watch him bat from the other end, he converts good balls into boundary balls, that’s so good to see. He’s giving me awareness on what shots to play (on batting with Jaiswal), I’m learning as to what shot to play, the awareness on converting good ones into boundary ones. It’s getting lower (on the wicket) and might start to turn genuinely from tomorrow. The wicket has gone slower and softer, hopefully it’ll start turning from the rough,” he added.

India ended Day 1 on 318/2 after 90 overs, with Jaiswal and Shubman Gill unbeaten on 173 off 253 and 20 off 68, respectively. Both the wickets were secured by Jomel Warrican, who holds figures of 2/60 in 20 overs thus far.
