Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Friday said that India is concerned about the well-being of minorities in Pakistan. Tharoor remarked after External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar presented data on crime and atrocities against minorities in Pakistan in Parliament.
“… It is a clear signal that we are concerned about the well-being of minorities in Pakistan… Another difficulty is that there is no real dialogue going on between India and Pakistan… Otherwise, we could have conveyed our concerns directly and sought redressal…,” Tharoor said speaking to reporters outside Parliament.
“The Minister’s statement was completely factual, and we should take note that there’s an extremely disturbing situation in our neighbouring country…,” he added.

EAM Jaishankar Presents Data
During Question Hour in Lok Sabha amid the ongoing Budget session, Jaishankar responded to a question on ‘Crime and atrocities against minorities in Pakistan’.
The Union minister stated that last month, 10 cases of atrocities were reported against the Hindu community and three incidents related to the Sikh community. Two cases pertained to the Ahmedia community while one was related to the Christian community.
“We take up these cases on an international level. Our representative at UNHRC pointed out that Pakistan is a country where human rights abuses, persecution of minorities and systematic erosion of democratic values are state policies,” Jaishankar said.

‘We Have Good Relations With Russia’
On reports of Russian President Vladimir Putin to India, Tharoor said it is the reciprocation for the visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Russia.
“The visit of the Russian President to India is reciprocation for the visit by the Indian Prime Minister to Russia. This is perfectly normal,” he said.
“We have a good relationship with Russia, and we will naturally have an exchange of visits at this level. It’s a good healthy development. I don’t see any particular problem with it, but we have to await more details. Let us get more details… when he is coming, what the discussions will be about,” he added.
