India Women have been fined five per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate during their opening match of the Women’s Tri-series against Sri Lanka in Colombo. The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the sanction on Tuesday after the conclusion of the match.
The fine was imposed after India were found to be one over short of the target, even after considering time allowances. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur accepted the sanction, which waived the need for a formal hearing.
“In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over if their side fails to bowl within the allotted time,” stated the ICC release.
The charge was laid by on-field umpires Anna Harris and Nimali Perera, with third umpire Lyndon Hannibal and fourth umpire Dedunu de Silva supporting the decision.
India had a commanding performance in the match. They opted to field first after winning the toss. The Indian bowlers struck at regular intervals, dismissing Sri Lanka for just 147 runs in 38.1 overs. Sneh Rana led the bowling attack with figures of 3/31 in eight overs at an economy rate of 3.9. Deepti Sharma and Nallapureddy Charani also picked up two wickets each. For Sri Lanka, opener Hasini Perera was the top scorer with 30 runs.
