Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 80 runs in match No. 15 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Eden Gardens on Thursday, April 3.
KKR got off to a terrible start as they lost their openers inside the first three overs. However, Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi steadied the ship with a stunning 81-run partnership off 51 deliveries. SRH came back into the game strongly by bagging the wickets of the two set batters in quick succession. Raghuvanshi scored 50 off just 32 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes.
Venkatesh Iyer and Rinku Singh joined forces and their stand of 91 runs off 41 balls. The former smashed 60 off just 29 balls, getting out in the final over. Rinku remained not out on 32 off 17 deliveries as the home side finished on 200/6 in their 20 overs.
In the second innings, Vaibhav Arora bowled an excellent spell with the new ball, accounting for the wickets of Travis Head and Ishan Kishan. Harshit Rana dismissed Abhishek Sharma, whose insipid form in IPL 2025 continued.
Nitish Kumar Reddy and Kamindu Mendis tried to resurrect the innings after SRH slumped to 9/3 in 2.1 overs. The former looked good during his brief stay at the crease. However, Andre Russell dismissed him after he had scored 19. Kamindu also hit some delightful shots before getting out to Sunil Narine.
All hopes rested on Heinrich Klaasen and the in-form Aniket Verma. However, the latter was dismissed cheaply by Varun Chakaravarthy. Arora came back for his final over at the backend of the innings and got the important wicket of Klaasen, who made 33 off 21 balls. Pat Cummins also hit a couple of boundaries to reduce the margin of defeat. In the end, the visitors were bowled out for 120 in 16.4 overs.
Arora and Chakaravarthy picked up three wickets apiece. Russell was expensive but he bagged two wickets. Harshit Rana and Narine also chipped in with one wicket apiece.
