IPL 2025: Jadeja and Pathirana mix-up hands lifeline to Jacob Bethell

Anshul Kamboj was denied his first wicket of the evening after an instance of miscommunication between Ravindra Jadeja and Matheesha Pathirana led to Jacob Bethell being handed an early lifeline. Notably, the incident took place during Match 52 of the ongoing edition of the IPL 2025 (Indian Premier League) between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

The two CSK players ended up bumping into each other while attempting to get hold of the ball. On the fifth delivery of the fourth over. Kamboj bowled a back-of-a-length delivery outside off stump. Bethell went for a hack towards the on-side, only for the ball to find the top-edge of the bat.

As a result, the ball went high up in the air over the fielder at short third man. Jadeja and Pathirana converged from point and deep backward point, respectively. Jadeja even had the ball in his grasp before spilling it due to the collision. Bethell completed the single.

It was Jadeja’s call right from the start. Had Pathirana not been there, it would’ve been yet another catch added to Jadeja’s IPL tally. The Sri Lankan was down due to the impact of Jadeja’s forearm to his mouth. The physio was out to attend to Pathirana immediately. After a few moments of manual inspection, Pathirana was observed walking off the field. Kamlesh Nagarkoti came in as the dazed pacer’s replacement. He was spotted walking off quite gingerly.

Dhoni invited RCB to bat first in Bangalore

Earlier in the evening, CSK won the toss and opted to field first. There were no changes as far as the visitors were concerned. The hosts made a singular change to their XI from their six-wicket win against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, April 27. Former CSK cricketer, Lungi Ngidi, came in for Josh Hazlewood, another ex-CSK cricketer.

RCB have been in fine form during IPL 2025. Ahead of the ongoing encounter against CSK, they have won three games on the trot. They stand a chance of going on top of the points table if they win the current match. The Rajat Patidar-led side have won seven of their 10 games so far. Finishing in the top two might be well and truly on the cards if the hosts keep up the sensational nick they’ve been in.
