A bottom of the table clash beckons as Kolkata Knight Riders will host Rajasthan Royals in Match No. 53 of IPL 2025. RR are out of the tournament, while KKR have a small chance of making it through. 

KKR broke a three-match winless streak and beat Delhi Capitals in their last game. All of KKR batters got starts, but no one kicked on to make it big. KKR still managed to put up a winning total, batting first. DC’s top order crashed and burned, but Faf du Plessis and Axar Patel held through. Sunil Narine then took over proceedings to dismiss them both and KKR were back. Vipraj Nigam elicited some hope, but his efforts were too little too late. 

RR’s loss to Mumbai Indians in their last match sealed their fate outside the playoffs in IPL 2025. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton got fifties to give MI a very strong platform in Jaipur. Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya made identical unbeaten 48’s from an identical 23 balls to capitalise on the openers’ strong start and once again go to a strong total.

MI’s “BBC” pace trio – Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar – set to work immediately, making sure that half the RR side was back in the hut in the powerplay itself. Karn Sharma walked in as Impact Player and cleaned up a tail that was putting up a futile resistance to get MI a 100-run win. 

KKR had also managed to get the better of RR in the reverse fixture in Guwahati. Four of the five bowlers that KKR employed in that match returned with two wickets each. The stars of the show were Varun Chakravarthy and Moeen Ali, whose restrictiveness through the middle overs helped KKR be in the driver’s seat. On a tough surface, the defending champions started slowly as well, but Quinton de Kock expelled all doubts with an unbeaten 97 to take KKR home with more than two overs to spare.
