IPL 2025: Mumbai Indians vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, Match 33 – Quotes and Reactions

It was anticipated to be a high-scoring clash at the Wankhede Stadium, but it turned out to be a modest contest. Mumbai Indians (MI) secured a comfortable victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in front of their home crowd, registering back-to-back wins to stay alive in the ongoing IPL 2025 (Indian Premier League) tournament.

SRH managed to post 162 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Despite their efforts to accelerate the scoring, they fell short of a competitive total. Openers Abhishek Sharma and middle-order batter Heinrich Klaasen showed glimpses of form and briefly steadied the innings, but their contributions were not enough to challenge the MI team.

Talking Points

1. MI bowlers’ tight spells

The Mumbai Indians bowlers maintained tight lines and lengths, not allowing the SRH batters any room to free their arms and score freely. For MI, Will Jacks impressed with the ball, delivering three economical overs, picking up two crucial wickets while conceding just 14 runs. Jasprit Bumrah used his experience, finishing with an economical spell of 1 for 21 in his four overs, maintaining a tight economy rate of 5.2.

2. SRH batters could not fire up

Top-order batter Abhishek Sharma provided a solid start for SRH, scoring 40 off 28 deliveries, while wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen added some late fireworks with a quick 37 off 28 balls. However, the rest of the SRH batting line-up struggled to find any rhythm and failed to add significant runs to the scoreboard against a disciplined MI bowling attack.

3. MI batters’ cumulative efforts

The MI batters contributed collectively to guide the team comfortably across the finishing line. Opener Rohit Sharma set the tone with a fluent 31 off 23 balls, while Ryan Rickelton added momentum with a quick 26 off just 16 deliveries. In the middle order, Will Jacks played a steady hand with 36 off 26 balls, and Suryakumar Yadav chipped in with an aggressive 26 off 15. Towards the end, Tilak Varma’s 21 off 17 and a powerful cameo from skipper Hardik Pandya, who smashed 21 off just 9 balls, ensured MI chased down the target with ease.

Who said what?

Pat Cummins, SRH (Losing Captain)

It wasn’t the easiest wicket. Few runs short, we would have liked a couple more with the bat. Tricky wicket, when you come here you expect it to be really fluent and fast, just wasn’t that. They bowled really well, shut down a lot of our hitting areas. I thought we had all our bases covered, with 160 you feel like you are a little bit short. We gave it a good crack with the ball. We thought we needed wickets, we had plenty of death bowling, we knew the impact player would bowl 1-2 overs that’s why we went with Rahul. You have got to play well away from home to make the final, unfortunately it hasn’t clicked so far this season, we have a short break and we go again. Every game we talk about assessing, the boys did well to get through the powerplay and there wasn’t reckless hitting, next game is at home and we know that venue pretty well.

Hardik Pandya, MI (Winning Captain)

I think the way we bowled today was very smart and spot on. We stuck to simple basic plans. Certain balls were not easy to hit. Credit to the bowlers that we made them hit some good shots. We were kind of squeezing them. If u look at it, had a nice green grass look to it. The first couple of overs that Deepak bowled, couple of balls got stuck in. We decided to use change of pace balls. As soon as we figured out, we trying to mixing it up. We executed the yorkers very smartly. That is the beauty of Jacks. He can be a gun fielder. Bowl those gun overs. Today it came off for him. When we needed 42 off 42, it was tricky. We wanted to take our time. It is going to be a great game. It is going to be a packed house.

Will Jacks, Player of the Match

The tournament we had a little bit of a slow start as a team and personally. We dropped a catch off the first ball. It dipped and I was late on it. I should have caught it. Just taken me little bit of time to s3ttle into the new franchise. Now we are gelling together. We have a great set up. Taking advantage of everyone near me. I would want to do whatever the team requires of me. It is about communication. Till the team is winning, I don’t care. If you are bowling slower balls, bowl it into the wicket. Have been working on being attacking against spin. I will keep working on it.
