HP Inc. has announced plans to cut between 4,000 and 6,000 jobs globally by fiscal 2028 as part of a wider effort to streamline operations and increase the use of artificial intelligence across its business.
The company said that the layoffs will help speed up product development, improve customer service, and boost overall productivity.
HP CEO Enrique Lores said that employees in product development, internal operations, and customer support will be impacted by the move. He added that the cost-cutting initiative is expected to generate about $1 billion in gross run-rate savings over the next three years.
“We expect this initiative will create $1 billion in gross run rate savings over three years,” Lores said during a media briefing.
The announcement comes after HP had already laid off over 2,000 employees earlier this year as part of an ongoing restructuring plan. Following the news, HP shares fell 5.5 per cent in extended trading, reflecting investor concerns over the scale of job cuts and restructuring costs.
