Jayalalithaa’s 1.2 Kg Gold Waistbelt, Gold Pen Reach Chennai In Huge Trunks From Bengaluru

Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s gold jewellery, some studded with diamond stones, emeralds, ruby and three silver articles weighing 27 kg arrived in huge trunks in Chennai after a CBI court’s decision to hand over the AIADMK leader’s assets to the Tamil Nadu government.

The decision was taken after the Supreme Court dismissed Jayalalithaa’s legal heirs’ plea for the release of her confiscated assets.

Which Assets Were Returned To Tamil Nadu?

A 1.2 kg gold waistbelt, a 1.5 kg gold sword and a gold pen were among the articles returned to the state government. Confiscated sarees and sandals had been returned earlier.

Jayalalithaa was convicted in a disproportionate assets case in 2014 and was later acquitted by the High Court. She passed away in 2016 while the state’s appeal was pending before the Supreme Court.

Old currency notes totalling Rs 59,870 and Rs 1,60,514 were also brought in the treasury boxes. The court has asked the RBI to exchange these notes and hand over valid currency to the Tamil Nadu government.

Officials also confiscated properties in the name of six companies which were spread across 1526.16 acres in Chennai, Thanjavur, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Thiruvarur and Thoothukudi.

A luxury bus, which is still in the custody of SIT, will be auctioned according to the orders of the court.
