Veteran actor Kamal Haasan, in his more than 65-year film career, has done it all, from acting to choreography. However, he believes that there are many things left to be done and declared that he stopped learning at some point.
Hassan, speaking to news agency PTI, said that the beauty of cinema is that one can reach a larger demographic but also takes away from the actual witnessing of the applause. And so, people distance themselves, and arrogance sets in because you don’t hear criticism, nor do the applause get heard, said Hassan.
Speaking on what he wants people to read about him in a cinema history book in 2075, Hassan hoped that people would remember him by name.
Speaking on success, Hassan said he sees it as ephemeral.
“My favourite writer Jayakanthan says ‘Once you climb Everest, don’t stay on top because there is no place (to stay). Then you will cling on to it and won’t let anyone else climb it,’ he said.
Hassan, when asked if films like Sagara Sangamma and Nayakan still make him cry, said yes and added that it doesn’t matter if Kamal Haasan or any other actor; if the scene is pertinent and touches me, I can. He added that there are films like that and that will make ‘you’ cry after 40 years, 50 years.
“Public confession? Yes, I do. It doesn’t matter whether it’s Kamal Haasan or any other actors, if the scene is pertinent and touches me, I can… There are films like that, they’ll make you cry after 40 years, 50 years,” he said.
On being asked if he ever thought of taking a back seat from his busy career, Hassan said that age will tell him, and achievements won’t. He added that age will convince him of that.
