With the country waiting with bated breath for the fate of 699 candidates in the fray for the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, it is time to take a look at the key seats that feature prominent candidates or have assumed a place of importance in themselves. Several high-profile candidates, such as Arvind Kejriwal, Parvesh Verma, Alka Lamba, Manish Sisodia, and Atishi, and high-stakes seats are on this list.
These elections are crucial as Delhi is the national capital and a win here gives the ruling party a strategic and psychological advantage. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is competing for a third term, while the Congress is hoping to return to power riding on promises of “Sheila Dikshit model of development”. The BJP is the third party in the three-corner fight and is hoping to stage a comeback after 27 years.

Key Battles In Delhi Assembly Elections 2025
First, let’s take a look at the key battles that played out during the voting in the Delhi elections on February 5. The key battles featured high-profile candidates who were slinging mud at one another before the elections and levelled accusations of corruption and unfair conduct.
The high-voltage campaigning made these high-profile battles prestige fights for the candidates.
Arvind Kejriwal Vs Parvesh Verma Vs Sandeep Dikshit
First up is the electrifying battle in the New Delhi Assembly constituency. New Delhi in itself is considered a strategically important seat and is considered the seat of Chief Ministers. Since its constitution in 2008, the seat has been won by Sheila Dikshit and Arvind Kejriwal, both of whom went on to become Chief Ministers after their victories.
This year, too, the seat was contested by Kejriwal. Last year, the BJP dropped MP Parvesh Verma’s name from its list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections and pitted him against Kejriwal in the Delhi Assembly polls. Sheila Dikshit’s son Sandeep Dikshit is the third candidate completing the ring for a three-cornered fight in New Delhi.
The New Delhi seat campaigning saw Arvind Kejriwal accusing Parvesh Verma of distributing cash to buy votes and the latter alleged that the former Delhi CM was misappropriating public funds. Sandeep Dikshit, too, mounted an attack on Kejriwal, alleging that he was bringing in people from Punjab to help in Delhi polls, a claim echoed by Verma.
As many as 56.41% of voters turned out on February 5 to vote for their candidate of choice.
Atishi Vs Alka Lamba Vs Ramesh Bidhuri
The Atishi-vs-Alka Lamba-vs-Ramesh Bidhuri battle in Kalkaji turned ugly at the very outset of campaigning. In fact, Ramesh Bidhuri’s acrid remarks reduced Chief Minister Atishi to tears. Alka Lamba’s candidature was doubtful in the beginning as sources claimed that she would not fight in the polls. However, the Congress later confirmed her candidature in its list.
Ramesh Bidhuri was also dropped by the BJP from its Lok Sabha candidates’ list and fielded in the assembly polls this year. Alka Lamba is a former AAP member. The AAP said if BJP won the elections, Ramesh Bidhuri would become the Chief Minister of Delhi. Bidhuri is known for his slurs against political opponents.
Kalkaji recorded a voter turnout of 54.59%.
Key Seats At Stake In Delhi Election 2025
Among the key seats are some contested by high-profile candidates like Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain, Amnatullah Khan, and Ravinder Singh Negi.
Patparganj Assembly Constituency
An AAP stronghold under Manish Sisodia, the party has trusted its responsibility to social media celebrity educator Awadh Ojha this year. However, Awadh Ojha’s debut is not going to be easy as the BJP has pitted MCD councillor Ravinder Singh Negi and Congress is banking on former MLA Anil Chaudhary for a win
Patparganj saw a voter turnout of 60.75% on February 5.

Jangpura Assembly Constituency
Manish Sisodia was introduced in this constituency by the AAP this year. Sisodia, who led a relatively low-profile campaign this year, went up against BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah and Congress leader Farhad Suri. This was Sisodia’s first poll battle after release from jail.
Jangpura saw a voter turnout of 57.49%.

Okhla Assembly Constituency
Okhla is in focus because of the battle between AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan and Ariba Khan, daughter of former MLA Asif Mohammad Khan. The BJP has fielded former councillor Manish Chaudhary. Amanatullah Khan courted controversies throughout his career and even on the day of voting.
He was booked on February 5 for an alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct. A few days ago, he was in the news after his son allegedly refused to produce documents for his bike, which was later impounded. He allegedly flaunted his father’s status.
The constituency reported a turnout of 54.96%.
Ballimaran Assembly Constituency
The Ballimaran seat, which is part of the Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha constituency, has long been a stronghold for Muslim candidates due to its predominantly Muslim population. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has fielded sitting MLA Imran Hussain, a minister in the Atishi Cabinet from the seat.
The Congress opted for veteran leader Haroon Yusuf, who held the seat multiple times in the past and even served as a Cabinet minister in the Sheila Dikshit administration. Despite several attempts, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been unable to secure a victory in this constituency. This year, the BJP nominated Kamal Bagri, who triumphed in the 2022 Delhi Municipal Corporation elections from the Ram Nagar ward. Bagri replaced Lata Sodhi, who was the BJP’s candidate for Ballimaran in 2020.
The constituency recorded a turnout of 63.9%
Shakur Basti Assembly Constituency
Shakur Basti is the stronghold of AAP leader Satyendar Jain. He has won the seat in three elections in a row. This was his first electoral battle after release from jail. The BJP sensed a momentum in the run up to elections, owing to Satyendar Jain’s incarceration and fielded Karnail Singh, the chief of its Delhi Mandir Prakoshth (temple cell), as its candidate from the Shakur Basti constituency.
The constituency recorded a voter turnout of 63.23%.
