Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met Rampal Kashyap, a resident of Kaithal in Haryana, who had remained barefoot for 14 years, vowing not to wear shoes until Modi became Prime Minister and he could meet him in person. During his visit to Yamunanagar, PM Modi helped Kashyap wear footwear, fulfilling the man’s long-standing promise. The moment was widely shared online after the Prime Minister posted about it on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
“At today’s public meeting in Yamunanagar, I met Shri Rampal Kashyap Ji from Kaithal. He had taken a vow 14 years ago – that he will only wear footwear after I became PM and he got to meet me,” PM Modi wrote.
He added, “I am humbled by people like Rampal Ji and also accept their affection but I want to request everyone who takes up such vows – I cherish your love… please focus on something that is linked to social work and nation building!”
PM Modi’s post included a video where he can be seen giving shoes for Rampal Kashyap to wear and remarking, “Do not do this again; keep working, but do not cause yourself this pain.”
Kashyap’s devotion had reportedly become well-known in his local community over the years, with residents acknowledging his quiet commitment since 2010. For Kashyap, meeting the Prime Minister marked the culmination of over a decade of determination.
PM Modi also reiterated his appeal in a separate tweet: “Fourteen years ago, he had taken a vow: ‘Until Modi becomes the Prime Minister and I get to meet him, I will not wear shoes.’ Today, I had the opportunity to help him wear shoes. I deeply respect the sentiments of all such supporters, but I would like to humbly urge them to, instead of taking such vows, commit themselves to a cause that benefits society or the nation.”
PM Narendra Modi’s Haryana Visit
The Prime Minister was in Haryana to lay the foundation stone for a series of developmental projects. Among them was the expansion of the Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant in Yamunanagar to 800 MW. He was felicitated by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini during the event, which the state government highlighted as coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti.
Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and other leaders were also present during the visit. Earlier in the day, PM Modi flagged off the first commercial flight between Hisar and Ayodhya and laid the foundation stone for a new terminal at Hisar airport.
