Mumbai Police On Alert After Social Media Post Threatens Eid Riots, Bomb Blasts; Delhi, UP Tigh

Security has been heightened across Mumbai ahead of Eid celebrations, with authorities implementing stringent surveillance measures following a social media warning about potential riots and violence, officials said.

Mumbai on High Alert After Social Media Threat

Security in Mumbai was intensified after a message on social media platform X warned of Hindu-Muslim riots, arson, and bomb blasts during Eid in areas like Dongri by alleged illegal Rohingya, Bangladeshi, and Pakistani infiltrators, a police official said on Friday, as per news agency PTI.

The message, which surfaced on Thursday morning and tagged Navi Mumbai police, specifically alerted Mumbai police to remain vigilant on March 31 and April 1, 2025, during Eid. Following this, Mumbai police increased security across the metropolis, ramping up patrolling, especially in Dongri, the official stated.

Apart from Mumbai police personnel, the Crime Branch, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), and the Special Branch have been put on high alert, the official added. So far, no suspicious activity or untoward incidents have been reported, as per PTI.

Delhi Police Steps Up Security for Eid

In the national capital, Delhi Police has intensified security measures, particularly in east Delhi, ahead of Eid celebrations.

“The police is fully prepared for Eid and Alvida Namaz. Teams are conducting meetings with the Aman Committee. We have briefed the staff of every police station in the east district to maintain law and order in their respective areas. Maximum personnel will be on patrol, and proper picketing will be ensured. Police presence will be complete,” an officer said, as quoted by PTI.

Authorities have also appealed to the public to celebrate the festival peacefully.

UP Police To Monitor Sensitive Zones Using Drones

Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar has ordered strict surveillance and a ban on any new traditions during Alvida Namaz and Eid-ul-Fitr, directing intensified monitoring in sensitive areas.

According to an official statement, Kumar instructed police officials to keep a close watch on anti-social elements, deploy drone cameras for vigilance, and ensure full riot-control preparedness. He stressed that security arrangements should follow a structured zone and sector plan, with adequate police deployment, including magistrates and senior officers, in identified sensitive areas.

“No new customs or practices will be allowed, and any attempts to introduce them must be stopped immediately,” the directive stated.

Officials have been asked to update records of individuals with a history of communal tensions and take preventive legal action where necessary. To maintain peace, local police are engaging with religious leaders and peace committees.

Senior officers have been directed to conduct field visits to key locations to ensure a visible police presence, while flag marches will be conducted by personnel from the police force, the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), and the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).

Additionally, foot patrolling in markets and crowded areas will be intensified, accompanied by anti-sabotage checks using bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs. Quick Response Teams (QRTs) will be stationed at strategic locations, and fire safety arrangements will be in place in commercial areas.

The DGP has also emphasised strict social media monitoring to prevent misinformation. “Any false or misleading content must be addressed immediately, with legal action taken where required,” the statement added.

Security agencies will use drones to monitor sensitive zones, particularly near procession routes and major intersections, while CCTV installations will be ensured in key areas, PTI reported. Emergency response vehicles under UP-112 will be stationed along sensitive routes, with additional patrolling under senior officers’ supervision.

Authorities have been directed to inspect riot-control equipment and ensure its availability at critical locations for immediate deployment if required. District police chiefs have been asked to activate morning inspection teams and brief officers for routine security checks.

Kumar has made it clear that there will be no room for security lapses, and all measures must be implemented rigorously to ensure peace during the festival period.
