
Twelve more people were arrested in connection with the violent protests over the Waqf Act in Murshidabad, taking the total number of arrests so far to 150.

– DIG PRO of South Bengal Frontier, Nilotpal Kumar Pandey, while speaking on Murshidabad violence, said, “The situation became more serious yesterday. There were regions in the Samserganj area where our parties were attacked with petrol bombs and stones… These (attackers) were the same people who have been making the whole situation tense… Today, the situation has improved… None of our BSF soldiers were seriously injured in the attack… However, certainly, one is bound to get small cuts and injuries when they are subjected to such a heavy rain of stones.”
– Speaking on the violence, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose said, “The Raj Bhawan is monitoring the situation in Murshidabad and other violence-hit areas on a real-time basis. Discussions are being held between the governor and the chief minister. The government of India, the Ministry of Home Affairs, is watching the whole situation diligently and effectively. Reports are being gathered from law enforcement authorities, including the BSF and the local police. The Ministry of Home Affairs has deployed central forces in sufficient numbers, and more enforcement is ready for any action anytime.”
– The Governor further said, “Nine companies of BSF are there. CRPF and RAF are ready. The state police and the central forces are active in the field. Miscreants are being arrested. The central forces are giving timely help to those who are in distress. Let the miscreants and their godfathers realise that it is going to be a no-nonsense battle… Nobody will be allowed to take the law into their own hands. It is a fight against violence and injustice.”
– The situation in Suti, Dhulian, Samserganj and Jangipur areas of the district is peaceful. Raids continued overnight, and 12 more people were arrested. More arrests are likely to be made in the violence case.
– Around eight companies of Border Security Force (BSF), along with around 1,000 police personnel, have been deployed.
– The Calcutta High Court had on Saturday ordered the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in Murshidabad district. – Prohibitory orders under section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) have been imposed in the violence-hit areas, and the internet has been suspended, an official said.
– The security forces are checking vehicles on the main roads, and patrolling the sensitive pockets. An investigation is underway into the incidents of violence.
– Several vehicles, including police vans, were set on fire, stones were hurled at security forces, and roads were blocked as violence rocked various parts of the state, particularly Murshidabad, during protests over the new legislation on Friday.
